If you aren’t in the present, find a way to get there. For me, a short outdoor walk or a deep breathing exercise can do the trick.
Why the present? Because when you’re able to ground yourself and bring yourself to the present you’re better set up for when those thoughts about your past and future creep in. You’re better equipped to turn those mistakes into learning opportunities and those uncertainties of the future into possibilities of what’s to come.
There’s an opportunity to learn from the past and to grow in the future. Ground yourself and bring yourself to the present to make the most out of the possibilities.
