In a recent podcast, Scott Galloway pointed out something so powerful that so many of us seem to miss.
He said the top three things you should be clear on when you’re interviewing are these:
1.What is your unique value proposition?
What makes you stand out?
2. Why is that important for the company?
Why should they care?
3. What are you doing to continue working on this advantage and strength?
Is your growth independent and self-driven?
It seems so obvious, a no-brainer of answers to have in our back pocket, but how many of us could answer these three succinctly, clearly and powerfully?
I wondered myself and set about answering them.
1.What is my unique value proposition as an executive coach?
My fire is born from experience, not theory. I’ve been where my clients are, in the corporate world, so I know exactly how it feels to try to show up, to make change, to be who you really are in a setting that so desperately needs diverse female leadership in every room decisions are made.
2. Why is that important for women and the companies they’re in?
The number of women in leadership positions is frighteningly low, and not only do we need them there, but we need a diverse set of voices there. The leadership of the world depends on it, so their success is not an optional garnish or something we can take or leave without consequence. Our future pivots on female leaderships like my clients being successful on their own terms for the betterment of humanity. It’s that serious. And it’s not my opinion – it’s research, it’s data, it’s fact.
3. What are you doing to continue working on this advantage and strength?
It’s a day-in-day-out effort and fight to show up as I ask them to. Being the example is my greatest strength, but I also stay current on trends, skills and the best strategies to help women achieve success. I work with experts in leadership, design and strategy to up my game constantly.
Clarifying a true self-portrait of your value, your work and your strengths is not a nice-to-do.
It’s a must-do.
You are here to stand up and stand out, but how can you do that if you don’t know what you have to offer?
Do yourself a favor and set aside time TODAY to answer those three questions.
When you’re finished, read them over and then ask yourself, “Am I clear?”
And if you’re not, what is it costing me?
